Is ABC doing the right thing... modifing the truth?

ABC's new docu-drama,

The Path to 9/11 is being portrayed as being factual even though President Clinton, Madame Albright and several others are questioning the facts…. What is your opinion on the show and how ABC is handling it?

Glad so many people were entertained by this drama. Everyone needs a night of rivetiing yet relaxing TV now and then.

But still, it does seem strange that so many brilliant people would do such a good job on a movie while explicitly fictionalizing important parts of it.
Plenty of blame to go around without any fictionalizing, I think.

You folks who complain about the "political" complaints--you may want to educate yourself further about the political agenda that motivated many of the makers of this film. Its producers and publicists have been quite candid about it. Why not be more honest about its agenda, now that we have seen it?

Free speech doesn't mean we have to
accept heavily publicized lies.

In fact, quite the opposite.

I feel pretty sure that Clinton loses sleep over some very stupid and even sinful (his own words) things he did during his Presidency. Let's also not forget that Clinton got blow jobs from Monica Lewinsky, and that was the only thing Republicans cared about until they got him out of office--they weren't worrying about national security then. It was all about vengeance, not our nation's well-being and unity in the face of our enemies.

How about the guys in charge now? It seems we've heard too much from some of them about how they sleep like babies, never look back, never worry . . . I really would like
to have leaders who are as conscientious as, say, most of my co-workers, friends, and relatives--we definitely lose sleep over important things sometimes, and are not ashamed to admit it, however we vote. It's kind of a grown-up way to be.

It all makes you wonder, unless you're absolutely determined never to think.

I thought the show was very well done. I don't believe that it showed the Clinton admin. in a bad light, I think it just showed the truth about govt. bueracracy, no matter who is in charge. Did the Clinton camp bother noticing that the Bush Adm. did not come out looking all that great either? It's simply the nature of govt., big, unorganized and too worried about being Politically Correct to actually make the tough decisions.

The censorship prevailed for the Clintons and their hacks. To say Bush did nothing about The Cole bombing is s stretch since in occured in Oct and he took office 3 months later.ABC surpressed the political implications that proceeded 9/11. They made Tenet the fall guy for Clinton,Albright and Stff the papers in the pants Berger. ABC failed in maintaining the so called journalistic ethics becaus of the pressure from Clinton.

In my humble opinion, the show was well made, intersting, and thought provoking. Since no one really knows the details of the micro-events (discussions between individuals, phone calls etc) the author's rendition is as good as any other.

As for, Clinton, Berger, and Albright's opposition, all have been shown to be dishonest in the past. One has been convicted of lying under oath, and another, while not convicted, cannot convince me or any rational person, that classified documents accidentally found their way into his underwear and socks. Why would anyone attach credibility to them.

On the other hand, the same people embraced Farenheight 911, which with little or no scrutiny was found to be riddled with inaccuracy and outright manufactured, "so called evidence" of conspiracy and deception by the the administration.

Oh, well, politics will be politics, and the security of our country be damned.

it shows that we got info on hijackings, we got info that airlines would be involved, and because of the bureaucratic nature all we heard was, "I need more info", when the other said, shouldn't we at minimum alert the airlines, this was solid info and the man said and scare them, no...so two minutes later on the showing we see an screener see a clear warning sign go off when one of the hijackers was going through security, BUT because noone cooperated with anyone (FBI, CIA, information sharing with airlines) the screeners just let him through, and you see that one of the screeners asked, "shouldn't he have been searched", no, WHEN A WARNING CAME UP AFTER HIS NAME, this is outrage...those thousands and thousands of people died because our intelligence had information they should have acted on, SADDEST THING, in 12/05 US was graded again on progress, one A, rest D's and F's...billions of dollrs later...what are we doing fighting in Irag solely or improving our airport security, not allowing immigrants in, and racial profiling, so what is wrong with it? look at all the past events, muslims, this is not saying all muslims are bad, but statistics speak for themselves, why don't we profile these people when boarding trains and planes, sorry, are we being too politically correct and ignoring the things that are factual and what led up to this, could have been prevented if "turf" wasn't such an issue in the federal gov't, let's go bush, fighting and saving Iraq is great, but make me feel better about who is crossing borders, who is coming into country based on info (one way tickets (alarm), muslim (alarm), no picture id (alarm), the one cop got ridiculed when the man had nowhere to go, noone to see or notify if he didn't get in to the country (alarm), let's be too careful and not worry whose feelings we hurt, search me for hours, i am not insulted...let's get our airports and borders and airspace secure and the military planes had better respond better than they did, what was up with that? where were they for twin towers? we know they shot down the PA plane, but why did it take 3 planes into pentagon and twin towers to figure it out based on pre reports up to this date? shameful

I thought the show was equally fair to both sides and showed how large governmental bureaucracies and well meaning laws regarding personal rights can interfere with our national safety. I also think it will help galvanize the American public into realizing that we really do have a problem which up until this time has been blurred by political posturing by both sides.

I thought the program was very well done and I am glad it was aired. The comments I am hearing regarding untruths being told are confusing. What is untrue? Maybe it was when Clinton said he did not have sex with Monica.

I think that ABC should be ashamed. I am going to boycot their advertisers. We should all boycott. Maybe then they will be hit in the bottom line and pay a bit of attention to facts instead of fiction. Personally I think that they should be sued.

I thought is was overall well done. People with an ax to grind are outraged by this "docu-drama" because it is mass media and it might reach the masses. Which by the way do not care about what is going on in the world or in DC. Most of America slept through history class, never read anything more than the sports page and watch Idol. If more of America paid attention to what is going on around us DC would change. Alas things will not change and DC will continue to make policy based on politics no what is best for the country.

I don't understand why people are so up in arms about this. Unless you were at every meeting, event, conversation, etc. in the days and years leading up to 9-11 how can you know the exact truth?

I don't think the movie showed democrats in a bad light and republicans in a good light. If anything it showed that for many years our federal government had turned a blind eye to all the warning signs that the terrorists were coming here. All the bickering and bragging ("I know something you don't know") between the CIA and FBI, democrats and republicans, and others was the true distraction that let the terrorist infultrate our defenses.

I appreciate ABC doing this. It has help me put all the pieces, places, and names together in a way that a history text book might. Let us hope that our children learn from this text book. God help us if we let history repeat itself.

By far the best docudrama in more than 20 years! Director, producer, actors did great job. Truly an outstanding piece featuring historical events. My only reservation was the censorship that again proved the industry's double standard applied to everything that is not ultra-liberal or immoral; probhibiting us once again from just playing straight up, fair and telling it like it really is/was. Despite that, well done ABC! Our whole family was glued to the set. PS we truly enjoyed watching a program WITHOUT all the commercial interruptions!

I didn't think it let the Bush Administration off the hook, the 2nd night revealed that. Yes, everything stated in the series was not factual but there was a fair amount that was true to some degree. The Clinton Administration had opportunties to do something about Terrorism and they failed. You can deny that all you want but the proof is there in black and white. In my opinion at least 75% of Americans and Politicans have somewhat forgot about 9/11 anyway. That is the really sad part.

With or without this type of propaganda in November we will see really what the people in this country think of our government. That is if they don’t steal the elections again
